Our first pre-season game saw us visit the home of Carmarthen Town FC to play our hosts who will begin this coming season in Tier 2 of the Welsh Pyramid having been relegated from the Welsh Premier
Carmarthen Town were a team packed with experience at that highest level but Pontardawe took the game to them from the off playing some lovely attacking football throughout the 90 minutes.
Unfortunate defensive mistakes saw the lads 2-0 down after 30 minutes and then, after 53 minutes, the home side extended their lead.In between Pontardawe had missed a few chances and had hit the woodwork on two occasions through Charlie Coates and Harri Lawson with latter being a 25 yard belter that shook the cross bar. Chances came and went and on 86 minutes Pontardawe were awarded a penalty which Charlie Coates slotted home only to see the home side maintain their 3 goal advantage just minutes later as Pontardawe put through their own net
The game ended 4-1 to the home side but with lots to be pleased with and lots to work on for the Pontardawe lads. [Carmarthen Town's goalscorers to be confirmed]
We would like to congratulate, and thank, Gareth and his team at Carmarthen Town FC for their organisation of the event which saw 100 spectators allowed at the game. The guidelines and rules imposed on the club by the FAW were extensive and they were implemented excellently by our hosts
Pontardawe Town though will be raising concerns with the FAW in respect of the organisation, which is no part the fault of our hosts, in that it is unacceptable for one team to be allowed to use changing facilities whilst we as a club had to change outside. Carmarthen had kindly sectioned off an area for us to have a level of privacy but it was a case of 1 rule for one and another rule for another despite Pontardawe Town being a Tier 3 club in the FAW Pyramid playing at an Elite Club ????
