It's Game Day
Finally, and only a few hours after we finished last season, football is returning to Parc Ynysderw where we welcome our friends from Risca United and look forward to a mighty battle if last season's games were anything to go by. In September we were defeated up at Risca by 3 goals to 1 with our goal coming from departed Cameron Harris. In a very cold and wet January return game, here in Pontardawe, we battled for a rare goalless draw
But we start today with a new sense of optimism both on and off the pitch.
The mighty Paul "Lewey" Lewis has stepped down from the first team but remains a driving force at the club especially for the coming season at Youth Level. In his place we have brought in Richard South to join Andrew Stokes. Richard was a great player here at the Town and has a great reputation for coaching especially at College level. He is a great character to have around as well
On the field we said farewell to a few stalwarts in Daryl Jeffries, Liam Roberts and Cameron Harris (to name but a few) but we have brought in players such as Liam Griffiths, Tom Georgievsky and Callum Saunders together with a number of youngsters from last year's youth setup.
Off the field we lost legend Geraint Jeffries who stepped down as Chairman and Groundsman for personal reasons. Josh Roberts has now taken over ground duties but more help is needed. We have a number of people who helped us get things ready for the season and we thank all of them especially Jason Dykes, Ray Hankey, Gerald Toner and, from our Juniors, there was Leighton and Des who came to the rescue with our changing rooms.
We continue to work really hard with respect water and electricity but we will never say we are close again. We have yet again been dealt with a blow which is delaying us further (after 4 years!!!) but we are addressing that with the appropriate organisation. We therefore still require teams and officials to change at the Leisure Centre Outside Changing Rooms (which meet Criteria) and use the on-ground changing rooms for half time and preparation .
In the meantime our Sponsor a Seat campaign is up and running (a bit slow so please get involved) and we have seats in our stand which will be welcome today with the weather forecast
Admission today is £4 with £3 for OAPS (Youth / Juniors are free) so please make sure you pop down to see us
Thanks to our new kit sponsor John Mark Films and our many other sponsors Heatsource Wales, Enterprise 2000, etc
All the best and see you in the Pontardawe Inn for a pint or three after the game
