Pontardawe Town FC have today informed the FAW of the withdrawal of our Reserves team from the FAW Reserve League South West with immediate effect
Every effort has been made to fulfil fixtures but due to player availability, impacted by the recent loss of players, the Club feels there is no possibility of us fulfilling all the remaining fixtures this season with such a small squad of available players on Saturdays.
The January transfer window saw the club lose further senior and youth players to clubs from Tier 2 to Tier 4. It is testament to the quality of these players that many of them are now playing at first team level with their new clubs.
As a club the Reserves was a key part of our Development plan so this is disappointing but we remain in a good position with our FAW Cymru Premiership Development Squad, FAW Youth Squad plus our Grassroots and Academy 16s. It is therefore our intention to regroup and look to maintain our support for the Reserve League next season. As winners of this league on many occasions our commitment to the league cannot be questioned but this season has been an exceptionally difficult one
The club wants to take this opportunity to thank Marcus Westmoreland and Gareth Govier for a massive effort this season, and over many seasons, here at the club.
This has not been an easy decision that the club has made and we apologise to all involved and affected
