On the 7th of March we received a defibrillator at the launch of the Defibrillator Programme in Memory of Local Footballer Mitchell Joseph

Following the sad death of Mitch, a friend of many here at Pontardawe and a former player, Swansea City teamed up with Welsh defibrillator charity Cariad to host the event where supporters, local football club personnel, referees and members of the public received training on how to use a defibrillator if called upon.

Cariad, who provide the units, basic life support training, ongoing maintenance and a 24-hour emergency response service, were on hand to raise awareness and answer any questions regarding the use of defibrillators and their importance.

Members of Mitchell’s family and his friends, who are playing a lead role in helping to decide where the defibrillators are located, were also in attendance after helping to launch the programme by supplying their own defibrillator at Mynydd Newydd playing fields recently.

A plaque in Mitchell’s memory is placed with every defibrillator going forward, together with a targeted awareness campaign.

The event was attended by Andrew Stokes (First Team Manager), Andrew Besley (Academy Coach) and Chris Phillips (Juniors Coach) .... photo coming soon.

The photograph below sees coaches Andrew Stokes, Jason Dykes and Paul Lewis with the defibrillator and plaque at the changing rooms in Pontardawe Town
