One of Pontardawe's most famous sportstars, and our very own Loren Dykes, has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours for her services to women’s football in Wales.
Loren is the daughter of current Chairman, and former Manager, Jason Dykes and his wife Kathy who is a former Chairman of the club and can been seen here at Parc Ynysderw at most home games serving teas, coffees and the finest burgers and bacon rolls in the league. Loren is also brother to Rhodri and Josh both of whom are former players here at the Town
Last season Loren reached a century of international caps for Wales making her the second most capped Welsh player behind, Jess Fishlock. She won her first senior cap against the Netherlands in 2007 and played in every match of Wales' 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying campaign.
Loren also plays a big role in inspiring the next generation of women’s footballers in Wales as she also coaches the Wales Women Under-15s, alongside her playing commitments to Bristol City Women where she is captain.
But it is here, at our Pontardawe Town, where we see the best of Loren as over the years she has devoted a lot of time and effort into helping the club develop our Girls section which is currently thriving. Loren will often be seen popping up at training and award nights and we also have a trophy which is presented to the best young female footballer ... The Loren Dykes trophy
We are all so proud of Loren and absolutely over the moon for Jason, Kathy and the boys
