Town were celebrating after a tough game in tough conditions at Parc Ynysderw
In front of a dissapointing sized crowd Town faced New Inn FC from the Gwent Premier League in the Dragons Signs Amateur Trophy Round Two.
The wind was gusting at around 50mph, allegedly, when the teams took to the pitch and it was Town who had the advantage in the first half with the wind at their backs. New Inn were a hardworking team and despite chance after chance Town weren't able to break them down. Furthermore, the visiting keeper Max Manson was exceptional throughout the whole 90 minutes.
On 34 minutes Town got the goal they deserved as Josh Dorward, who scored a similar goal in the previous round at Cwmbran Town, rose above the defence to head home from a Ben Scannell corner. That should have spurred Town on but it was New Inn who had the next chance but the strike was hit high over the bar.
In the second half New Inn had most of the ball in the early part of the half but didn't really trouble the home defence with Nat Osborne, the Town goalkeeper, not having much to do. Town made some changes which seem to make a difference but despite creating more chances the second goal didn't come and it was with relief that the final whistle came and Town can now look forward to the 3rd round.
A special mention for the New Inn FC players and supporters who were a credit to their club before, during and after the game. A real togertheness shown and it was a pleasure to welcome them to Parc Ynysderw
