An outstanding performance at Cambrian United saw Pontardawe Town promoted to the JD Cymru South after a 2 year absence. The 2-0 win over South East runners up Cwmbran Town was played in front of a large crowd, who were being eaten alive by the midges, but who saw a polished performance by Christian Evans's team that deserved a larger scoreline
Town took the lead within a minute when Jake Barrow's ball over the top was chased down by Sammy Harrison who showed great composure and skill to smash it home over the keeper. Pontardawe then went on to create a number of chances in the first 20 or so minutes so extend the lead with Kyle Copp coming the closest with a shot that the keeper did well to save. Cwmbran Town, to their credit, were living off scraps until then but they then went on to gain parity in the second quarter without really testing South West Golden Glove winner Nat Osborne.
Just 5 minutes into the second half Pontardawe Town extended their lead when Sammy Harrison put through a fantastic ball for Jake Barrow to run on and score with a perfect finish. Pontardawe were comfortable now and more chances came but the scoreline remained 2-0 going into the last 10 minutes as Cwmbran Town threw everything at them. Nat Osborne saved well from one of the few chances the East Division side created but it was Pontardawe Town who lifted the play off trophy and can now look forward to being part of Tier 2's Cymru South league next season
A fantastic season by everyone at the club ended with promotion which was the goal laid out to everyone at the start ... Mission Accomplished !
