On a sunny August day Parc Ynysderw once again hosted a Cymru South fixture after two seasons away from the second level of Welsh football.

Our visitors, Caerphilly Athletic, had won the Ardal League East Division last season and this was their first visit to Parc Ynysderw

With Steve Berry in charge Town welcomed a few new faces including new captain Dan Alfei and striker Liam Samuel. On the bench were Isaac Dudding, Jay Farrell-Ali and the returning Taylor Evans, all of whom had joined the club this season. In goals, for his 100th appearance for the club, was Nat Osborne who last season won the Golden Glove for the second season running. In his 100 games Nat has kept 36 clean sheets

After going close early on, Pontardawe found the net after just 3 minutes when, found by Josh Dorward, new signing Liam Samuel smashed home (1-0). Caerphilly was in a bit of disarray at this time and Town should have capitalised on this but chances came and went. Later in the first half Caerphilly had settled and were looking dangerous at times but failed to trouble Nat Osborne too much.

The second half was just 8 minutes sold when the impressive Jake Barrow broke down the left and delivered a great cross which young Jesse Meacock smashed home on the volley. It was a great goal and gave the home side a bit of breathing space just as the visitors were starting to show how good a side they are. The visitors went close on a number of occasions but were thwarted by good defensive work and some great goalkeeping by Osborne who was awarded Man of the Match after the game.

Steve Berry made a number of changes and then, on 79 minutes, Caerphilly were undone by an unfortunate mistake when Thomas Walbeoff headed past his keeper to make the score 3-0

Town then saw the game through without any major concerns and it was great to have 3 points in the bag
