Town kept their late winning run going at Parc Ynysderw against league leaders Swansea University

Town kept their slim promotion hopes alive on Wednedsay night against already promoted Swansea University with second half goals from Tim Georgievsky and Kurtis Rees

In front of a decent sized crowd, despite other distractions such as Swansea City v Derby County and Barcelona v Liverpool, both teams demonstrated how good a standard this league can be. Both sides went at each other and played very high quality football.

In the first 10 minutes Town had 2 chances through Tom Blizzard whilst home keeper Steven Reeve saved well low down to his left to keep the visitors out.

The first half was end to end with the University having the bulk of the possession but Pontardawe were exciting on the break and with Liam Griffiths having a brilliant game leading the line it was Town who had the best chances. A Tom Blizzard free kick nearly caught keeper Harry Churchill out and on 40 minutes only desperate defending by the visitors kept out a Craig Davies header which was cleared off the line

The second half started brightly for the home side as Tim Georgievsky, who was playing further forward having played at Centre Half in recent weeks, broke through and hit the bar from the edge of the box.

The break through came on 52 minutes as Town broke down on the left and Tim Georgievsky slotted home brilliantly from close range and then went on to do all sort of gymnastics as part of his celebration (1-0)

It was a the lead the home side fully deserved and never really looked like losing. The visitors, despite their possession, lacked the cutting edge which has seen them bag a 100 league goals this season (an amazing achievement).

Town were relentless and it didn't get any easier for the visitors when Josh Dorward was brought on. Josh has been looking as sharp as he has ever done and the University defence had their work cut out trying to deal with him.

On 80 minutes Town got a second from a free kick which saw Liam Griffiths rise to win a challenge against defenders and the keeper. The ball fell to Kurtis Rees who adjusted his feet to put the ball away (2-0)

Town nearly had a third from Josh Dorward as the game to a close but it wasn't to be and the game ended 2-0 and that keeps alive Town's promotion chances with 4 games to go

Saturday 4th May : Caerau Ely (Away)
Wednesday 8th May : Aberbargoed Buds (Away)
Saturday 11th May : Dinas Powys (Home)
Saturday 18th May : STM Sports (Home)

Congratulations to Swansea University for their promotion and also to STM Sports who also gained promotion on Wednesday with a 4-1 over Bridgend Street. There now only remains 1 promotion spot with a few teams still in the mix.

A special mention for our good friend Jon Hughes whose contribution in respect of our ground development has been immense and we couldn't have done it without him. Thanks Jon ... forever Black & White !!!
