Pontardawe Town's long unbeaten run is ended by Division Two leaders

Pontardawe Town returned to league action after their FAW Trophy win last week and faced the one of Division Two's pace setters in Monmouth Town. Injuries and absence forced the home side into a few changes which say Christian Evans replace Craig Davies at Centre Half and Oliver Schofield come in for the injured Josh Dorward.

As usual on a Saturday the sun was have a weekend off and in the drizzle a small crowd witnessed an entertaining game between to good sides.

It was a bad start from the home side as the visitors took an early lead, on 2 minutes, through Nick Williams who was given time to beat Steven Reeve from close range (0-1)

Pontardawe did get into the game from that point and showed a alot of attacking intent down the flanks but all too often the final ball went astray as did the odd chance or two. Meanwhile the visitors were looking solid in defence and quick in attack.

The second half was very similar with Pontardawe desparately searching for the equaliser but having to be very careful at the back. They were then caught our on 76m when Monmouth Town swarmed forward and Elliot Ford found himself unmarked in the box and he gave the keeper no chance as he extended the lead for the visitors (0-2).

Soon after Pontardawe had a good penalty shout ruled out by the match referee as from a corner there was clear contact on the Town player but nothing was given other than a yellow card for descent.

With the home side giving everything the officials ended the game which saw Pontardawe's long unbeaten run ended and Monmouth go to the top of the Division Table

Man of the match was Monmouth Town Centre Half Rob Laurie.

Great to see so many youth lads getting opportunities at Pontardawe Town with Oliver Schofield, Ben Webb, Callum Dolman and Cai Thomas all involved yestery . Also really pleasing to see young Dan Williams at the game who was a product of the Pontardawe Academy, Youth and Senior section who is now a full time professional at Premier League Cardiff City and we all wish Dan the very best for the future.

Meanwhile the Reserves went down 2-1 away to Llantwit Major. Joe Lloyd scored and the lads missed a penalty which saw one of our youngest reserve sides come up against and older an more experienced home side but matched them throughout. The future is really bright at Pontardawe Town

Pontardawe Town travel to Cardiff to face Bridgend Street next week and will be hoping to bounce back to push on up the table with 13 games remaining. The Reserves travel to Afan Lido
