Town battled back at Bridgend Street but it wasn't enough to bring home the points

Pontardawe Town visited Bridgend Street in Cardiff on the back of a first defeat in 12 against Monmouth Town.

On a difficult pitch both sides struggled to play flowing football but the home side definetely coped with the surface better than Pontardawe.

That said it was Pontardawe who struck first on 5 minutes as Liam Griffiths latched on to a poor backpass and calmly rounded the keeper before scoring his 19th goal of the season.

Bridgend Street were looking extremely dangerous and Town's keeper Steven Reeve was fortunate after a bobble took the ball passed him but he recovered well to clear.

Meanwhile at the other end Tom Blizzard nearly doubled Town's lead but his free kick just went past the post.

On 20 minutes the home side got a deserved equaliser when a thrown in found it's wat to the unmarked Nick Davison and headed home with ease.

With the home side continuing to be on top Town were living on scraps but nearly scored a second when Declan Horgan-Evans hit the post from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Just two minutes later, on 46 minutes, Bridgend Street took a 2-1 lead after hesitant defending by the visitors allowed Michael Murphy to tap home.

The second half was only two minutes old when former Carmarthen Town player Paul Fowler hit home a free kick harshly awarded by the official against Tim Georgievsky. Keeper Steven Reeve got his hands to the ball but could only palm the strike into the net.

Town were looking a better side than they did in the first half and got a second through Liam Griffiths, his 20th of the season, who beat the offside trap to slot home under the keeper

On 67 minutes Bridgend Street were awarded a penalty for a foul in the box and up stepped Paul Fowler but his penalty was superbly saved by Steven Reeve who certainly made up for his earlier error.

As Town searched for an equaliser the home side got a 4th from another thrown in as Declan Horgan-Evans put the ball in his own net. Soon after the home side hit the bar but could easily have made it five.

The game had opened up by now and was end to end but the referee was again brought into action on 85 minutes as the home side's Nathan Gulley was given a straight red for a badly timed tackle on Tim Georgievsky

Almost immediately Town were back in the game as Craig Davies bundled the ball into the net from close range after good work from Liam Griffiths and substitute Dan Briggs.

Town searched for an equaliser but it wasn't to be and the home side celebrated the win and the 3 points. Town remain in 9th place with Bridgend Street in 8th place.

Town face Caerau Ely at Parc Ynysderw on Saturday as fixtures revert to 2:30pm kick off.
