A Day of Missed Chances At Cwrt-Yr-Ala But Still Lots To Play For

The lads travelled to Cardiff for yet another must win game against another promotion chasing team in Caerau Ely

The sun was shining at the excellent Cwrt-Yr-Ala where Mike Jones have certainly upped the stakes in terms of facilities with everything from an improved pitch surface right through to extended changing rooms. This is certainly a ground ready for Championship football next season although it was Town's job to make sure that didn't happen ... in the nicest possible way of course !!

Town started to the brightest and both Josh Dorward and Craig Davies went close early on. After a slow start the home side started to show their intent with some route one football up to the unofficial match referee Rameer Outlaw and Josh Spencer but a couple of smart saves by Steven Reeve kept the scores at 0-0. Tom Blizzard was finding a lot of space for the visitors but was unable to capitalise on the chances that came his way.

The match official was not having a great game to be far but seemed to be getting lots of vocal encouragement from Rameer Outlaw. It was the Caerau Ely forward who then opened the scoring on 36 minutes after a mistake at the back allowed him to latch on to a ball before Steven Reeve to slot home (1-0) .... it was bound to happen !!!

Town were still looking good dangerous and after a few more chances went begging they finally got their reward as when a Tyler Aylward free kick found Craig Davies who smartly beat keeper Elliot Matthews with a glancing header.

Town started the second half really well and the home side struggled to get into the game. Chances came and went for Liam Griffiths, Tom Blizzard and Josh Dorward when normally all three would have put them away. Town could have been a few goals clear at this time but the lack of finishing gave Caerau Ely a boost and in the middle of the half they started to dominate with right back Jerome Maynard linking up well with Outlaw and Spencer giving the Town defence a lot to think about.

On 71 minutes Outlaw went close but on 75 minutes they did score as a harsh free kick, given against Kurtis Rees by a pretty inconsistant referee, was hit into the box. The ball found its way to Josh Spencer who scored from close range (2-1)

The remainder of the game saw Town try to force the equaliser but the home side tightened up the game and chances were few and far between so it was the home side who claimed the 3 points

Caerau Ely, together with Pontardawe Town, are a number of teams looking for promotion and now it is out of Town's hands but still a possibility. Results need to go their way and they need to win all 3 remaining games. An exciting end to an excellent season for the lads .... can they do it? .... come along for the journey and find out!!
