The sun was definitely shining at Pontardawe Town as the players, coaches and supporters revelled in yet another win over a top of the table team.
After the 4-2 win at previous leaders Monmouth Town it was Caldicot Town who were sitting on top as they visited Parc Ynysderw in the sunshine
The visitors playing with the slight breeze and the sun at their backs came close early on but a header went just over the bar. Immediately the home side responded but Gareth Wesson, in the Caldicot goal, brought off two excellent saves and within two minutes he was rewarded as Caldicot's centre half Ben Burns latched on to a mix up in the home side defence to fire home from close range (0-1)
The first half was even in terms of possession, with most of it between the 18 yard boxes, although Tomos Blizzard, Dan Briggs and Josh Dorward all went close with strikes for the home side. On 35 minutes a corner by Tyler Aylward nearly fooled keeper Wesson but he was able to scramble it away from under his crossbar. Pontardawe Town were closing the half strongly and it came from a free kick by Tomos Blizzard which was diverted into his own net by Ben Burns (1-1)
The second half belonged to Pontardawe as the visitors struggled to hold on to possession and to create any meaningful chances. Meanwhile for the home side Christian Evans went close with a fine shot on 57 minutes. Just 9 minutes later Tim Georgeivsky rose high to meet a cross and headed home a fine goal to give Pontardawe a deserved lead (2-1).
Both sides now made changes with player manager Tony Wallis coming on for Caldicot Town but on 81 minutes the lead was extended by Declan Horgan-Evans who found himself free in the box and his sweet strike gave the keeper no chance (3-1). Minutes later it could have been 4-1 as Liam Griffiths's shot was well saved by Gareth Wesson
Caldicot Town's day did not get any better when Tony Wallis was sent off for striking Christian Evans and minutes later centre forward Ben Smith's penalty was brilliantly saved by keeper Steven Reeve
So another great win for Pontardawe Town who now have 9 league games left, starting at home against Aberbargoed Buds on Saturday 6th April, with the little matter of the FAW Trophy National Cup Final on Saturday 13th April
