In a rearranged game, due to other club's cup commitments, Pontardawe travelled to Monmouth looking for their second win of 2020 but it wasn't to be as the game ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw
As early as the 4th minute the home side took the lead when a hotly disputed penalty was scored by Samuel Oxley. Pontardawe were amazed at the decision which followed a decent tackle by Tyler Aylward and no appeal from the home side
Pontardawe were playing some good football in tough conditions but the home side were defending resolutly and always looking dangerous on the break with the long ball one of their main approaches to the game. Pontardawe's approach paid off on 16 minutes when Harri Lawson went on an excellent run and produced a great cross for Josh Dorward to side foot home
Pontardawe were getting increasingly frustrated by Match Official Scott Brown who was producing a poor display for this level of football. To add to this Pontardawe had a penalty shout for handball waved away ... where is VAR when you need it !!
Pontardawe lost Harri Lawson just before the break and he was replaced by Ryan Cole
A further two goals came in the first 5 minutes of the second half with Pontardawe taking the lead through captain Craig Davies who headed home a Garry Taylor corner. Minutes later though Elliot Ford found himself free and scored an equaliser for Monmouth
On 66 minutes Steven Reeve produced possibly the save of the season in the Pontardawe goal and then minutes later hit a lovely ball to Jordan Langley who scored with an audacious lob of the keeper with his left foot. What a goal it was .... goal of the month on Match of the Day no doubt !!!
Monmouth missed a great chance on 75m and were pushing for an equaliser which didn't look like coming until the assistant referee decided to join in the game. Firstly he waved for a free kick against Danny Birch for what looked like a good tackle and then, from the resulting free kick, he waved for a hand ball by one of the Pontardawe players in the wall. No-one else saw it and nobody appealed but it was given and this upset the Pontardawe players to the extent that Garry Taylor was dismissed from the field for dissent
Samuel Oxley stepped up and scored his second penalty of the game and the game ended even.
