A very young side played exceptionally well against a good Goytre United Reserve side tonight but despite taking a 2 goal lead in to the last quarter the visitors hit back and nearly went on to win the game
Town took the lead in the second half through veteran striker, come centre half, Gareth Lewis who showed all of his speed, strength, agility and power to strike a ball towards goal from 10 yards that somehow found its way past the visiting keeper Callum Rees who had earlier brought off two outstanding saves. Soon after Scott Williams netted to give the home side a 2-0 lead.
Midway through the second half the home side lost Gareth Lewis who had to leave the field as he had forgotten to set East Enders to record and that made the difference as Goytre United pulled back two goals
So a credible draw against a good side but overall a disappointing season which was mainly down to the Welsh League Management Committee who refused to listen to the clubs early in the season and the league became a farce with many teams not having fixtures for long periods of time. This resulted in a few clubs withdrawing having lost players to lower, and local, leagues who seemed far more organised and willing to listen to the clubs
Hopefully next season will bring a far more positive set up and we will be able to encourage our players to return
